"Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us…" -Ephesians 5:1-2

Prophecy and fulfillment of the Birth of Christ

Visiting Elder Daniel Wood was once again called upon to preach for our morning services. He chose Leviticus 12:1-8 as his main text and used Genesis 22, Isaiah 43:1, 53, and 63, John 1:23-32, Micah 5:2, Jude 1, Luke 2:1-32, Hebrews 9:11-12, and numerous other texts for additional scriptural support. Elder Wood began with an explanation of the requirements of the Jewish Levitical Law as it applied to women having just given birth in Israel. He also taught regarding the requirement for male children to be circumcised the eighth day after their birth. Elder Wood then proceeded to explain how all these requirements were accomplished by Mary, the mother of Jesus after His birth, but rather than just bringing a lamb for a burnt offering, she also brought The Lamb as an offering, which is to say, Jesus Christ. Elder Wood also expounded upon many of the other Old Testament prophecies about Jesus that were fulfilled and subsequently recorded for us in the New Testament. He also taught that it is extremely important that we study the scriptures so that we are in a position to not only tell others what we believe, but to be able to defend those beliefs by the scriptures. Elder Wood also pointed out that Jesus did not pay half the cost for our eternal salvation and now awaits us to do our part – – He paid it all, in full, one time and it is finished! Additionally, he proclaimed that Jesus was not offered to us (as some incorrectly claim) but rather was offered unto the Father and, therefore our acceptance of Him is not in view, but rather the acceptance of the Father is in view.
