Our Pastor, Jonathan Cook, then presented a powerful sermon again using Romans 8:28-39 as his primary text. He also utilized Job 19:23-27, Genesis 1:1, Psalm 17:15, John 1:18, Matthew 22:23-30, Isaiah 53, Luke 24:13-43, 1st Corinthians 13:12-13 and 15:35-54, Philippians 3:20-21 and many other scriptures for support. In his presentation, Elder Cook emphasized the coming bodily resurrection and glorification of all God’s elect children. Mysteriously and miraculously our natural body, which is sown in corruption, dishonor and weakness, shall become a spiritual body, raised in incorruption, glory and power – – all by the power of Almighty God and in a twinkling of an eye. We will be like Jesus in our perfected state but shall each retain the individual soul and spirit that we have now in our new spiritual bodies. Elder Cook emphasized that these are real flesh and bone bodies which never suffer the effects of sickness, aging, nor death for Jesus Christ has defeated death and the grave, and we, by Him and His power alone, shall most assuredly do the same.
“I’ll Fly Away” was selected as our closing hymn and, as we began to sing, five individuals came forward to express an interest in membership at Old Carroll. We briefly interrupted our song to hear from each person regarding their desires to join the church. Each person was present to the church and then unanimously voted to be received into fellowship — four by letter from Old Brick Primitive Baptist Church in Jarrettsville, Maryland, (Elder Richard Tillman, Brother Mark Chamness, Sister Shelly Chamness, and Sister Stacy Tillman) and one (Brother Bruce Black) by baptism, to be arranged at a later date. We then sang the previously selected hymn and offered the right hand of fellowship to our new prospective members as we all celebrated this beautiful occasion as we all shook hands and exchanged hugs of affection one with another. Brother Luis Bernal then closed services with a sweet and heartfelt prayer.
