"Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us…" -Ephesians 5:1-2

Fear of God, It’s missing from our society

Our Pastor, Jonathan Cook, then presented a fiery and powerful sermon using Hebrews 12:28-29 as his primary text with supporting scripture from Romans 3:10-18, 1:16 and 21-32, Revelation 20:10 and Chapter 21, Job1:1, Proverbs 9:9-18, 1st Peter 1:13-20,
Psalm 5:7, Philippians 2:12, 2nd Corinthians 7:1, Ephesians 5:20-23, Colossians 3:18-24, and a number of other scriptures. In his presentation Elder Cook sternly warned us about how today’s society no longer shows a reverence for God or the Bible, nor a fear of God, and yet scripture tells us that fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. In the interest of political correctness and acceptance, that which is evil is now taught and called “good” and that which is good is now taught and called “evil.” Men seek to please themselves and each other and not God and, unfortunately, too often this is even happening in churches because preachers are failing to diligently seek the truth of the scriptures and opt to be man pleasers and not pleasers of God. In spite of the deteriorating situation in the world and the sad state of affairs in many churches, there is still something positive for the elect children of God. Elder Cook emphasized the good news is that we are not redeemed with corruptible things such as silver and gold but with the incorruptible blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. As a result, all of our actions should reflect the knowledge of what He has done for us. We need to respect our husbands, wives, parents, leaders and others in authority. Most of all, we must fear and respect Almighty God and never forget who we are serving. In whatever capacity we serve, we should do it in a manner pleasing to Him so that He is glorified by our actions and reproach is not brought against His church or His most holy name.
