I am the son of Elder Billy and Sister Bonita Cook. I have one sister who is also my sister in Christ – Kimberly Adams, who is married to Elder Jason Adams. I was born September 16, 1974 at Holy Cross hospital, Silver Spring MD. I was raised in a family that believed in God, and practiced biblical values. I cannot remember the date I was born again because I always remember the Lord being in my life. I do remember when I began to understand the gospel and believed in the death burial and resurrection of Christ, I was close to 7 years old.
On my 7th Birthday my parents bought me a King James Bible; I remember my first readings were from the Gospel of Matthew regarding the crucifixion. My mother tells me that one day I got off the elementary school bus walked in the front door and said, “Mom, let me tell you about the apostle Paul on the road to Damascus.” My grandfather, Elder Leonard Barton told me one time I took the Bible and stood in the middle of the living room and said, “Now ya’ll listen up, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth…..”after a few comments, “Now PawPaw you get up and preach on it a while”.
Although the Lord has been so good to me, I am far from being obedient to Him as I should. I know I am nothing, yes, less than nothing without the Lord. I finally submitted to Baptism on March 20, 1994 at the age of 19 on the river banks of the South Holston River in Lodi, VA and I united with Rush Creek Primitive Baptist Church. I was baptized at the hand of my father, Elder Billy Cook with Elder Eugene Blevins assisting. I thought all was well, spiritually speaking after my baptism.
Not long after my baptism I felt the call to preach, the Lord revealed it to me in dreams and then through other church members. People whom I have never met approached me on 2 different occasions to tell me I was called to preach in addition to many others whom I did know. I was rebellious and turned from my call; instead I turned to the world. No matter how far I tried to run from the call, it became stronger until the Lord made me submissive. I only wish that I was submissive from the beginning, it would have saved me from several trials in this world. I met Kimberly Ellen Cheney while at James Madison University, and not long after I was married, I joined Old Carroll Primitive Baptist Church in Mt. Airy MD. It is there where Elder Bill Stephens encouraged me to follow my call, and I began introducing the services. After a period of time the church licensed me to speak publicly. After a year and a few months the Church at Old Carroll called for my Ordination to the office of Elder. Elder Jason Adams and I were both ordained on the same day; May 23, 2004. My wife has been a great support and blessing in my ministry, and we have been blessed with 4 children: Leah, Hannah, Micah, and Sarah Cook. A few years later the church called for me to serve as co-pastor with Elder Bill Stevens. Our church went through some trials from Oct. 2012-Nov. 2012 due to the condition of our meeting house. The Lord closed one door and opened another for us. We found a Lutheran building in Point of Rocks, MD and began meeting there in December 2012. The church called for me to pastor October 13, 2013. Since then I have been following the Lord in my feeble efforts and carry out what He wills. Please pray for me, I need the prayers of the saints. May God bless all of you.
